Prior to launching Schwartz Communications, Steve Schwartz had been the speechwriter for General Electric’s CEO Jack Welch and a vice president of Interleaf.
In 1990, Steve co-founded Schwartz Communications with his wife Paula Mae.
Today, Schwartz Communications is the nation's second-largest independent public relations agency specializing in technology and healthcare, and the largest PR agency headquartered in New England.
Schwartz Communications was named 2006 Technology Agency of the Year by The Holmes Report.
Schwartz Communications has more than 175 employees and offices in Boston, London, San Francisco and Stockholm.

Steve Schwartz is a Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College and holds an M.F.A. from Columbia University’s School of the Arts (Writing Division). He is a Trustee Emeritus of Bowdoin College.

An avid outdoorsman and conservationist, Steve is a rock and ice climber and an ocean kayaker. He has hiked all over the world, including the Everest region of Nepal, New Zealand, Norway, Costa Rica, Iceland, across Wales, throughout the Alps and the White Mountains of New England.
Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz provided the lead gift for the Schwartz Outdoor Leadership Center at Bowdoin College, the teaching facility and logistical base for Bowdoin’s outdoor programs.
Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz are also the principals of a film company, Chockstone Pictures. Among their projects is the movie adaptation of THE ROAD, starring Viggo Mortensen, based on the Cormac McCarthy Pulitzer Prize winning novel.
